Holiday volume does not create loyalty problems.
It reveals them.
If the reward is vague, the line is slow, or nobody on site can explain the program, December will make it obvious.
Tune the program in October. Do not debug it in the queue.
1. Make the Reward Obvious Before the Rush
Customers will not decode a program while they wait.
If they cannot repeat the offer in one sentence, they will skip it.
Fix the language now:
Wash. Earn. Get a free wash.
Not a point puzzle.
Not a holiday asterisk.
2. Decide What “Busy” Does to Redemption
A reward that takes three extra steps will die when the lot is full.
Walk the path yourself:
- Where do they see the balance
- How do they redeem
- What happens if staff is slammed
If it only works on a quiet Tuesday, it will not work in December.
3. Staff Need One Line, Not a Training Deck
If your team cannot say the program out loud, customers will not use it.
Give them one sentence:
“You’re close to a free wash. Ask us at the kiosk.”
Practice it.
Put it on the counter.
Busy days are when the line matters most.
4. Do Not Use the Surge as an Excuse to Slash Price
Volume is not a coupon event.
Holiday traffic already wants the wash.
Your job is speed, a clean bay, and a program that still feels fair.
A surprise extra for regulars is a thank-you.
A sitewide slash is a habit you will have to unwind in January.
5. Set the Calendar Before the Calendar Sets You
Pick the moments now:
- After a wash
- When a reward is one visit away
- After a missed-week gap
Write the dates.
Write who owns the reminder.
If you wait until the first ice storm, you will ship nothing.
6. Watch the Line Like It Is Part of the Program
Loyalty dies in a long wait.
Members and regulars notice first.
If holiday volume always creates a backup, fix the flow:
- Hours
- Staffing
- How redemption is handled at the peak
A reward they cannot use in a reasonable time is not a reward.
